Is the United States Ready to Change?
Posted by admin | Under Uncategorized Sunday Jun 28, 2009Even though Barack Obama’s inauguration has happened, it may still be too early to tell whether the surge of patriotism we saw will be something we can count on going forward. The fact that we elected our first African American president was significant, but time will only tell if that is enough to keep people rallied behind the president.
Whether people know it or not, it would be beneficial to all of us, because we’ve been torn asunder long enough. One group that would certainly benefit would be American veterans. Many gave their youths to serving in wars and in some cases, they sometimes came home to poor medical care and public derision. That is the reason I created some veterans day clip art that honors veterans. Using the clip art wherever veterans will see it is a small way we can pay tribute to them. That show of support could mean a lot to veterans who feel their country has forgotten them. But we need to pay attention to veterans by doing more than just sending annual Veterans Day cards. The country’s support of them has to be ongoing. Our veterans have earned it. If that support doesn’t come from us; where will it come from?
Yet, it’s not just veterans who would benefit from our country having renewed interest in unity. It would be wonderful to see people saluting American flag images when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. One would hope that love of country will help us unify. But will this reunification take place? Some people are vehemently opposed to President Obama’s changes. But that’s to be expected. To a certain extent, those differences protect us. That’s the way it’s supposed to work anyway. The people of the U.S. will just have to see what happens.
